Das Rheingold

The Atlanta Opera’s film presentation of Richard Wagner’s "Das Rheingold" brings the thunderous opening chapter of "Der Ring des Nibelungen" into homes worldwide, capturing the company’s historic April 2023 production from the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. This monumental opera unfolds the mythic tale of gods, giants, dwarves, and river spirits whose pursuit of a cursed ring sets in motion a vast saga of power, betrayal, and destiny. Never before seen in the Southeast on this scale, the production, directed by Tomer Zvulun and conducted by Arthur Fagen, features commanding performances, including Greer Grimsley as Wotan and Kristinn Sigmundsson as Fasolt. The film highlights Wagner’s immense orchestral palette and dramatic invention, inviting audiences everywhere to experience the primal forces that ignite the Ring cycle.
